Soup's On 2019
What a wonderful afternoon!
The Townhall in Bayfield hosted their annual Soup's On event on Sunday, February 17, 2019, and what a great community event and a perfect way to spend a beautiful winter day! More than 300 people crowded the hall to sample the 15 soups, divided in two sections, restaurants and organizations. Two judges Dawne Erb and Guy Spence had the pleasure of sampling the soups without knowing who had made them, where Dawne judged the restaurant soups and Guy judged the tasty submissions done by local organizations.
The following restaurants competed: The Albion, The Docks Restaurant and Bar, Renegades, the Drift, The Public House, Bayfield Berry Farm, The Lake House, and The Little Inn. When announcements were made at 4pm Dawne had awarded first place to the winning restaurant, The Berry Farm. Honourable mentions were given to Renegades and the Docks. The seven organizations represented at the competition this year were: The Bayfield International Croquet Club,The Lions Club, The Mews, The Bayfield River and Trail Association, The Knox Presbyterian Church, The Optimists and Feed My Sheep. Guy awarded the first place trophy to the Bayfield International Croquet Club, with honourable mentions to The Mews and Bayfield Optimists.
It was a much more comfortable event this year for the more than 300 visitors as they entered the Town Hall in three different time slots, This meant that there was plenty of room in the main hall to move around mixing and mingling with neighbours and friends as they sampled the various soups. Everyone had 45 minutes to taste the 15 different soups in the building and cast their vote. The new format was a big hit! When the people had cast their votes for the restaurants and organizations, it was quite interesting to note the different winners selected by the community. When the ballots were totalled the people had chosen The Docks as their favourite restaurant soup . Honourable mentions went to Renegades and the Public House, a new participant this year. Among the organizations, the people chose The Optimist soup as their favourite with a shout out given to The International Croquet Club and the Knox Presbyterian Church.
The Townhall committee would like to express its gratitude to the restaurants and organizations that participated, you are all winners. The smells and tastes in the building were phenomenal! This event is definitely becoming one of the community highlights as demonstrated by the enormous turnout of taste testers! We are also beginning to notice that there are more out of town visitors dropping in as well - welcome to you all and we look forward to seeing you back next year. Thank you as well to all the people who remembered to bring their mugs and spoons. You each in your own way have helped reduce the environmental waste in our community! Bayfield takes its environmental initiatives quite seriously and appreciates your continued support.

Soup's On 2018
What a wonderful afternoon!
We hosted our eighth annual Soup's On yesterday, and more than 300 people crowded the hall to sample the 19 soup competitor's soups.
This year our competition was done in two sections, restaurants and organization. Two judges, Judy Keightley and Michael Potter, had to sample the soups without knowing who had made them. Judy judged the restaurant soups and Michael judged the organizations' tasty submissions.
We would like to express its gratitude to the restaurants and organizations that participated. The smells and tastes in the building were phenomenal! This event is definitely becoming one of the community highlights as demonstrated by the enormous turnout of taste testers! We are also beginning to notice that there are more out of town visitors dropping in as well.
Thank you as well to all the people who remembered to bring their mugs. Some even brought their own spoons which meant that we had minimal garbage. Even the soup bowls and spoons that we provided were compostable. Bayfield takes its environmental initiatives quite seriously and appreciates your support.
